The School of Music at Ohio State offers a diverse series of summer programs. Students will engage with fellow musicians from around the country, our faculty, current students and guest artists in enjoyable and educational activities and performances.

Clarinet Academy

Sunday–Wednesday, June 7–10, 2026


Clarinet Academy provides students with an opportunity to develop as musicians; engage with peers; work with Professor Caroline Hartig, clarinet students and alumni; and enjoy the college experience on campus. Activities include private lessons, master classes, performing as soloists and in coached chamber groups, and as part of the Ohio State ClariNetwork ensemble.

Double Reed Camp

Wednesday–Saturday, June 17–20, 2026


Students will work with the faculty and students of the Ohio State bassoon and oboe studios in an atmosphere designed to be informative, inspirational and enjoyable. Rehearse and perform in a large Double Reed Choir as well as small chamber ensembles and get "hands-on" with the arts and crafts of reed-making. In master classes, you will develop performance enhancement strategies, explore solo repertoire, and more. Make friends and join a supportive double reed community by taking part in Double Reed Camp at Ohio State.


For students entering grades 9–12 in the 2026–2027 school year and 2026 high school graduates.

Flute Workshop

Sunday–Thursday, June 14–18, 2026


Students will participate in master classes taught by Professor Katherine Borst Jones, technique classes, private lessons, solo night, faculty and counselor recitals, flute choir and twice-daily coached small flute ensembles. Enjoy a finale concert featuring all participants; free and open to the public.

Hip Hop Camp – Day Program

Monday–Wednesday, June 8–10, 2026


The Ohio State University Hip Hop Camp is an immersive three-day educational experience designed to introduce students to the rich history, cultural foundations, and creative practices of Hip Hop. Grounded in an academically informed understanding of the genre, the camp explores the four original elements of Hip Hop — DJing, Breakdancing, Graffiti, and Emceeing — through structured, hands-on learning environments facilitated by experienced practitioners. The camp will also include Beat Making. The program concludes with a student cipher, offering participants an opportunity to share what they have learned in a supportive, community-building environment. Parents are warmly invited to attend this culminating experience.


For students entering grades 9–12 in the 2026–2027 school year, and 2026 high school graduates.


Parental Advisory: Explicit Content. The music at this camp could include topics of strong language, depictions of violence, sex, or substance abuse, but these topics will not be discussed. This camp is strictly about the culture and not about societal topics that some hip-hop songs sometimes include in their lyrics. The School of Music at The Ohio State University supports freedom of artistic expression.

Jazz Camp

Thursday–Sunday, June 11–14, 2026

 

Jazz Camp provides high school musicians with an up-close view of the jazz studies program at Ohio State. Students will play in both a big band and jazz combo, participate in master classes with Ohio State jazz studies faculty, and enjoy sessions covering topics such as jazz history, jazz theory, jazz improvisation and a survey of the music industry. The program concludes with a finale concert where the big bands and combos will perform for family and friends.


For students entering grades 10–12 in the 2026–2027 school year, and 2026 high school graduates.Must have at least one year of experience playing in a school jazz ensemble.

Ohio State Marching Band Clinic

Friday–Sunday, July 10–12, 2026


Location: Steinbrenner Band Center, Ohio Stadium


The Marching Band Clinic is an opportunity for high school marching band students to improve their musicianship and marching skills as they contemplate a potential audition for the Ohio State Marching Band. Under the direction of marching band staff and student leaders, participants learn the music and marching fundamentals used by the Ohio State Marching Band in an encouraging, fun and interactive environment.


While the Marching Band Clinic is an introduction to Ohio State traditions and our marching style, students MUST have experience playing their selected instrument(s) to participate.


For students entering grades 10–12 in the 2026–2027 school year, and 2026 high school graduates. Students must have completed at least one year of marching band and must have experience playing a brass or percussion instrument.

Middle School Concert Band Academy — Day Program

Sunday–Friday, June 21–26, 2026

Sunday 3–6 p.m. (Sunday start times differ based on instrument)
Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–3:30 p.m. daily)


The Middle School Concert Band Academy is specifically designed for middle-level concert band musicians to enrich their understanding of music in an enjoyable, non-competitive program. In addition to rehearsals in the large ensemble, students will take part in instrument-specific master classes, as well as choose two electives: Beginning Conducting, Beginning Jazz, Beginning Piano, World Drumming, Ukelele. The program will conclude with a band performance that is free and open to the public.


For students entering grades 6–9 in the 2026–2027 school year. All participants must have at least one full year of playing experience.

Saxophone Camp

Sunday–Wednesday, June 7–10, 2026


Saxophone Camp provides high school saxophonists with diverse learning opportunities to develop as both classical and jazz musicians, engage with peers, and enjoy the college experience at Ohio State. Participants will work directly with professors Michael Rene Torres, Shawn Wallace and Robert Brooks in group activities, chamber and full saxophone ensemble; will hear inspiring performances, learn about saxophone fundamentals, improvisation, practicing strategies; and will perform in a finale Saxophone Camp concert!

Summer Strings — Morning Program

Monday–Friday, June 15–19 and 22–26

Student/Parent Orientation

Mornings only, 9 a.m.–12 p.m.


Location: Steinbrenner Band Center, Ohio Stadium, Gate 10


Summer Strings offers two weeks of motivational hands-on training in technique and aural skill development, participation in chamber music ensembles, and large orchestra rehearsals in a fun, non-competitive atmosphere. While this workshop is designed to meet the needs of students from various training styles, all students should have at least one year of playing experience.

All students participate in both weeks of the workshop.

Vocal Arts Camp

Thursday–Sunday, June 11–14, 2026


Students will work with members of the voice faculty to enhance their vocal performance abilities through one-on-one lessons; classes on auditioning, vocal technique, lyric diction, singing health, Alexander Technique; master classes; ensemble and stage craft work.
